Oubaai to host PGA National Champs
GEORGE (4 May 2015) - South Africa's top PGA professionals will gather at Oubaai Golf Club for the PGA National Championship presented by Diners Club from 11-14 May.
The Championship is the most prestigious tournament within the PGA of South Africa, and is contested solely by PGA professionals and not touring professionals.
"We are delighted to be able to showcase the national strength of our PGA pros at Oubaai Golf Club. We have a number of professionals who have been playing incredible golf this year, and we're looking forward to a great championship," said Ivano Ficalbi, Chief Executive of the PGA of South Africa.
The PGA National Championship presented by Diners Club also comes at a time of incredible growth for the PGA of South Africa.
South Africa's oldest association of professional golfers, dating back to 1925, has spent the past two years shaping itself into a more effective business and one that can be a major player within the global PGA World Alliance.
The association represents the club professionals who work at golf clubs around South Africa, including 574 qualified Club Professionals and 162 registered Apprentices.
The association has also grown through a strong Partners and Affiliates programme with over 30 major corporate brands and companies that have aligned themselves to the PGA brand.
"I'm proud to say with the full support of our Board we have taken this association forward and are now in a very healthy position. The PGA of South Africa is a strong brand worldwide. The quality of our new professionals must be high, and we must continue to uplift our current membership with educational opportunities that keep them at the forefront of the global industry and the PGA World Alliance. We are also focused on helping our club professionals improve their standing at their golf clubs. PGA members are a vital part of a successful golf facility because they help retain golf members and bring in new golfers," said Ficalbi.
